Founded & Directed by Reynaliz Herrera, IDEAS, NOT THEORIES is a theatrical percussion company for unconventional percussion instruments that offers several programs featuring Reynaliz Herrera’s original music and compositions for bicycles and other unconventional instruments. At CultureHouse’s Gilman Pop-Up Park 2024, Reynaliz Herrera will perform her program/composition entitled IDEAS, NOT THEORIES- BICYCLE ORCHESTRA which presents a small scale adaptation of the original bicycle music featured in Reynaliz Herrera’s theatrical percussion program “Ideas, Not Theories- Full Staged Show”. Originally, the performance would feature 7 percussionists drumming on 6 bikes used as musical instruments, but for Gilman Pop-Up Park the performance will feature a “REDUCED Cast Version” of the work, which will include 3 performers.

Composed and Directed by Reynaliz Herrera, the musical work features the sonorities of the musical bike (frame, handle bar, seat, wheels, chainwheel, spokes), combining polyrhythms and phasing, with world-inspired rhythms like indian & brazilian. Additionally, the music is linked together through interactive physical theater and characters. Expect to see and hear colorful bicycles reflecting the vibrant bike culture booming around the world.
