Artist Statement:
Trauma//Healing & other works is an attempt to understand my relationship with nature and how it holds a mirror to my own cycle of trauma and healing.

It began with a speculative Google search about culturally modified trees (CMT), the indigenous practice of manipulating young trees to communicate everything from nearby drinking water to sacred burial grounds. From there, it blossomed into a small obsession over people’s need to communicate, connect, and imprint their story on the world around them.

Each piece in Trauma//Healing & other works depicts places I’ve been to, physically or spiritually, and captures how I was affected by the quiet and stillness of the environment. As you explore each piece, feel free to separate yourself from the busy and unlistening world outside these doors, and reflect on traumas that your body may have stashed away. Listen on your own or with a neighbor for a more holistic experience.
